The I Worship Chaos Tour featuring Children of Bodom, Abbath, Exmortus and Oni made it's way across the US to Philadelphia. Fans ventured out in Nordic-like weather to the TLA on Saturday night. Oni, a progressive death metal band from Ontario Canada, opened the show. The band has a truly unique sound, utilizing a somewhat rare instrument, the xylosynth. It's basically an electronic xylophone. They are a great choice for an opener for this tour as their music has been compared to Children of Bodom. Their set was awesome and set the tone for the rest of the show!
Exmortus, a thrash band from Whittier, California, was the second band to go on. Their set featured a few cover songs including Immortal's "Tyrants" and a version of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata", which was incredible! Exmortus is super energetic that were non stop the whole time on stage.
Next up was Abbath who always put on a great show. Abbath (or Abbath Doom Occulta) is the name of the singer-guitarist and really the only permanent member of the band. Abbath Doom Occulta is formerly of the Norwiegian black metal bands Immortal and I (whom the band covers quite a bit live). Like Exmortus, Abbath played "Tyrants" along with "Warriors" and "One by One". They also played songs from their first self titled album which was released earlier this year. Abbath Doom Occulta is a great showman who knows how to whip up the crowd and even make them laugh. He kept screaming Abbath (pronounced like Abbott) whether he was referring to the band, the album, himself or all of the above, we may never know.
Between each of the bands the Philly crowd chanted "Bodom, Bodom, Bodom!" They were finally appeased when it was time for the headliners, Children of Bodom. The band from Finland is celebrating their 20th anniversary with this tour. They are also promoting their most recent album "I Worship Chaos" which was released in October of 2015. They started the show off with "Needled 24/7" and "Follow the Reaper". They played a mix of songs from old to new throughout the set. Children of Bodom has always put on a great show. Their musicianship is top notch so check them out if you have the opportunity.
